Jo Mignone is an Australian, artist, illustrator, and lecturer at Adelaide University.
Specialising in drawing, painting, and illustration, Jo's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions in Venice, Mexico City, Singapore, and throughout Australia. Her creative practice has received recognition throughout her career, from being named National Illustrator of the Year by The Independent Monthly publication in 1993 to becoming an international finalist in the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award in 2021.
Alongside her creative practice, Jo is an award-winning educator with a passion for developing creative thinking through drawing, painting, and visual storytelling. She is a Fellow of Advance HE (UK), an international recognition of excellence in higher education teaching. Her contributions to teaching and curriculum design have been recognised through multiple teaching awards and, most recently, with the selection of her curriculum work as an Adelaide University exemplar of course design in 2025.
Jo is driven by a belief that creative practice develops not only technical skill, but also curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper way of seeing the world. Through both her art and teaching, she continues to explore the role of making, experimentation, and visual communication in contemporary life.
